K2 Base Camp Trek

Weather permitting; we take the short but spectacular one hour flight from Islamabad to Skardu. Once in Skardu we will check into our hotel and enjoy free time exploring the area. Skardu Valley, in Baltistan is located 2500m above sea level and is hub for trekkers and tourists exploring this mountainous region. If poor weather does not allow us to fly, we will drive on the Karakoram Highway to Chilas (B)

We either have a free day for exploring in and around Skardu or we are completing our drive from Chilas to Skardu.

We drive in 4×4 vehicles through spectacular scenery to Askole (3000m) in the Braldu Valley, passing through the infamous Braldu Gorge.

We will leave the last village and trek to Jolla. We traverse across the Biafo Glacier which is 37 miles long and have lunch at Korefong. We continue towards the Panma (Dumordo) river and reach Jolla after crossing the river by a rope bridge.

We start today’s trek on a relatively easy trail for 3-4 hours before crossing the Bardumal campsites along a 2 km stretch of sandy river beach. After a lunch break, we continue towards Paiyu for another 2 to 3 hours. From your campsite you will have a view of Baltoro glacier.

Today’s trek will lead us across the famous Baltoro Glacier. En-route we will have a magnificent view of the Trango Tower (6237m) to (6617m.) and the Paiju (6601m) mountain ranges.

Today we trek along the Baltoro Glacier toward Goro. On our right we will see Yarmandu Glacier, which joins Baltoro Glacier at Byango, as well as Musherbrum peak (7821m). We have lunch at Byango and then to continue along the Baltoro Glacier to Goro, from here we can see Miter Peak (6025m) and Gasherbrum IV (7925m).

Today we trek to Concordia which brings us to what many consider the most spectacular mountain camp anywhere in the world. Concordia is the area which has the largest concentration of glaciers and peaks in the world. From here you will have an awe-inspiring view of some of the world’s highest peaks, including K-2 (8611m), Broad Peak (8068m), Gasherbrum IV (7980m),Chogolingsa 7664m) and others.

We will spend a free day at the Concordia or have an optional day excursion to the K2 Base Camp area.

Today we trek to the upper Baltoro and then to the Vigne glacier over a mix of terrain of morraine boulders to straight forward level ice. We are trek on the pure white Vigne Glacier surrounded by dramatic peaks. We have an early night at Ali Camp in preparation for an early start and a tough day ahead.

An early start is required to utilise the good snow condition to cross the pass safely. On the top to Gondogoro La you will find the most spectacular view on earth. From here you can see the K2, Broad Peak, G1, G2, Muztagh Tower and towards Hushe side you will find Laila peak, Ninchi peak and many others. Please note: Gondogoro La crossing is dependent on favourable weather and safe conditions on the trail to the pass. In the case of adverse conditions we descend the mountain via the same route.

Today we trek down to Shaicho following the Ghondogoro Glacier. En-route we have a beautiful view of Laila peak (6200m) and Mashabrum peak (7821m).

Full free in Saicho to relax and enjoy the scenery.

A jeep journey will take us though some small villages to Skardu.

Transfer to the airport for flight to Islamabad. If flights are unavailable we will drive to Besham instead.
